Master Files vs. Resource Centre Files – What is the difference?
The Resource Centre is place where the template components are stored in the form of CaseView documents we call modules. Modules cannot be used as working templates in the client files because they are an “unprocessed” form of the templates. This is a necessary part of the Jazzit update system.
There are two Resource Centres (RC): KLIB (Knowledge library) and FRMLIB (Farm Knowledge library).
The content of individual modules in the Resource Centre may be edited by your Jazzit Administrator to reflect your firm’s preferences. These revisions are then available on a firm wide basis through the update process within each client file. The Resource Centre includes a document to track any firm customization for updates.
Never use Copy Components to copy a module from the Resource Centre to a client file. New documents required for your client files are copied from Master Files only.
If you do copy modules from the Resource Centre into your client files you will know right away because there is a message that appears on your screen that lets you know that you should have copied from the Master File. The modules will not look right when you print them out, the headers will be at the bottom instead of the top, etc.
The GENMST, FULMST or your firm’s own master templates are the files you will use on a regular basis. Using the Copy Components (File > Copy Components) in Caseware, you will copy the Jazzit templates you need from a master file into an existing or new client file.
We recommend you do not change the index numbers for the modules in the Resource Centre, however index numbers in any master file (GENMST, FULMST, and Firm masters) can be revised to suit the firm needs with no effect on the Jazzit templates. Jazzit shares information between templates using the document identifier, not the index number.
The difference between GENMST and FULMST
The GENMST is considered the ‘original’ master file for the Jazzit Fundamentals package. It only contains Jazzit templates.
The FULMST contains every template that GENMST has but it also contains a number of Caseware automatic documents that are included in typical Caseware files. This makes the FULMST an ideal starting point for a new file or a Firm master file.
KLIB (Resource Centre)
GENMST (Master Templates)
FULMST (Master Templates)
The modules in the Resource Centre have a different series of index numbers than a client Caseware file.
No automatic Caseware documents
Full index including automatic Caseware documents
Each module also has a unique identifier assigned to it that has to match the identifier of the document in the Master Templates, e.g. RP is the identifier for the Engagement Report module. When you view this module through windows explorer, the filename would be klibRP.cvw
No leadsheets

Each CaseView document in the KLIB Caseware file is a separate module of the Jazzit template.

Document identifier needs to match the module identifier in the KLIB (Resource Centre)

We recommend that you make a backup (File > Backup) if you are planning on making any changes to the KLIB, GENMST or FULMST.
