JZ059 Custom template based off an existing Jazzit template
Jazzit fundamentals include a set of blank letters and working papers for the creation of custom firm templates. An alternative is to use an existing Jazzit letter or working paper as a base for the creation of a custom template. This article will outline how to do this.
Create custom template in the Resource Centre (KLIB and FRMLIB)
Open your Resource Centre using Caseware. We will create a copy of the Jazzit module we want to base your custom template off of. In this example we will create a custom template based off the Engagement letter module (JZEL).
Create a copy of the engagement letter module - Right-click on the engagement letter module and click copy. Right-click again and click paste. A copy of the engagement letter module will be created.
Set the EL module copy properties - Right-click on the engagement letter module copy and click on properties. Change the name, number and identifier as required. Take particular note of the identifier. In this case, the identifier is ‘JZEM’.
Add customizations to module - Double-click on the Engagement letter module copy to open in CaseView. Customize the module as required. Close and save the module when you are done.
In the Master file (genmst or frmmst)
Open your master file using Caseware. We will create a copy of the Jazzit template that corresponds to the module copied in the Resource Centre. In this case we will create a copy of the Engagement letter template.
Create a copy of the Engagement letter template - Right-click on the engagement letter template and click copy. Right-click again and select paste. A copy of the Engagement letter will be created.
Set the JZEL Copy properties - Right-click on the Engagement letter template copy and click on properties. Change the name, number and identifier as required. Important: Ensure that the identifier matches the corresponding Resource Centre module. In this case, set the identifier to ‘JZEM’. The name and number can be different from the Resource Centre module.
Reload customizations from Resource Centre - Open the Engagement letter template copy by double-clicking on it. Click on Reload from Resource Centre. You should now see the customizations transfer over from the Resource Centre.
Jazzit updates
A Jazzit update will only update templates with the original identifier. Custom templates built using the above method will not be affected by a Jazzit update.
Customizations will need to be redone if you wish to incorporate the latest changes from Jazzit.
Set aside the current customized module and template by changing their identifiers - Open the Resource Centre and assign a temporary identifier to your customized module. Open the master file and assign the same temporary identifier to your customized template. Continuing with the example above, we will change the identifiers from ‘JZEM’ to ‘JZEMTEMP’.
Redo the customizations - Use your custom module identifier (ex: ‘JZEM’) when creating both the Resource Centre module and Master file template. You can reference off previous module (ex: ‘JZEMTEMP’) when adding back in the customizations.
Delete old custom templates - When everything is working you can delete the module and template with the temporary identifiers.
