Exporting GIFI The GIFI information can be exported to most of the Canadian T2 software packages. GIFI information is exported from Caseware based on the GIFI numbers shown on your trial balance. The GIFI numbers are automatically assigned to the client’s accounts when you complete the mapping process.
Under Diagnostics in the Home Menu of the financial statements there is a GIFI diagnostic which lists any accounts on the trial balance with a GIFI number different from the one in the mapping properties. As a firm, you should control the assignment of GIFI numbers on the trial balance by using mapping. This diagnostic will indicate if the user has manually changed any GIFI number on the trial balance.
To export your GIFI information from Caseware, click on Engagement > Export > GIFI and select an appropriate file name and location for your export file, then open your tax software and import the information from this file. Note that the link between Caseware and your tax software is not in real time. If you make a change to your GIFI assignments in Caseware you will have to repeat the export / import process.
