Accessing Online Benchmark Resources

Accessing Industry Canada (Statistics Canada) Benchmark Database
Industry Canada provides benchmark information free of charge on their website (https://ised-isde.canada.ca/app/ixb/cis/search-recherche?lang=eng).  The path to this information is set in the Score settings area.  This link may be updated in the settings area if required or enter an alternate source. The button titled "Access benchmark information via internet" at the top of each benchmark module in the Score resource centre will launch this URL address.

If your firm would like to include benchmarks from Industry Canada's benchmarking database, this can easily be done and the benchmarking data is provided free of charge over the internet.

Open the JZBM file
Open any of the Benchmark Industry modules (1-200) and click on the button entitled Access benchmark information via Internet. This should open the Industry Canada website with the benchmarking tool.

Key information into the specific Score industry module.

Note there are 4 columns of quartile information based on gross sales and a whole industry average. Your firm will need to decide which columns of data it wishes to incorporate into the benchmark Resource Centre module. Once the decision has been made, rename the description at the top of the columns i.e. "ONT 36K - 155K sales, 2011 year data".  This abbreviated version indicates the data in this column relates to the Province of Ontario, businesses with gross sales of between $36,000 and $155,000, and that it is year 2011 data. It is very important you include the year of data, as this will advise the user of the date of the data they are extracting. In the future if you need to update the data, just open this industry module, re-key with new updated data and change the heading to reflect date of the data.

Note: Information above is subject to changes made by industry Canada to their website.
